After Shibata Zeshin


A four case lacquer inro delicately worked in black hira-maki-e with numerous overlapping crows, the details of their tongues in red, on a kinji ground.
With signature Zeshin.
Length 8.2cm.
Circa 1880. 

A box with similar decoration of crows and herons is in the collection of the Tokyo National Museum, illustrated in Goke Tadaomi ed. Masterpieces of Shibata Zeshin (Tokyo, 1981), pl.1 and 22.
